Beyond the shelf

Got an email today asking me to distinguish Wondir from off-the-shelf Q&A products. I’m actually unaware of any off-the-shelf Q&A services, but I’m guessing they are probably like the scores of Q&A and ask-an-expert services/sites out there right now and over the last few years, whereby you have to register as a member, select a category, find an expert, (sometimes) pay-per-answer, navigate a message-board or BBS format etc… a long, rather complicated process. At Wondir everything is simple and instantaneous, and this is why our Q&A volume is so high despite our modest size as a site. The ticker, search-esque open format, live question board and on-site instant messenger features are all unique in this space.

Accoona

Looking at their Alexa ranking graph, Accoona has come outo nowhere and is already wildly popular. On their about page they talk about thier "interactive search experience." I'm still playing with the site so not sure where the interaction comes in, but if anyone knows more about this please let me know. Wondir can be characterized as an interactive search engine as well to some degree (other people respond to your search when you enter it in the form of a question) so always on the lookout for innovations and potential partners in this space.

The Wondir Way to Q&A

Notes from Matt Koll on the breathtaking shrinking of response-times at Wondir. Traditionally Q&A sites have average response times (how long a question takes to get answered) of about a day or so....

(please forgive the mixed-up font sizes, etc, haven't had time to wrestle w/ Typepad today)

... under a minute from Q to to A.  BTW,
we like it when people give references.

Look at the time stamps.  This answer came in
under 2 minutes from the question time.  And
Guest6395525 didn't have to register or
anything.  All he had to do was ask.

If my memory serves, circumference is equal to
2*pi*r (in other words 3.14 * the diameter).

Social Map of the Wondiring Blog

Courtesy of Persuadio (MyDensity.com).  It allows you to see a map of the relationships you have , reflected in who you are linking to and who's linking to you (I believe) and your link-friends' relationships with each other. Try it. Thanks Mitch!

Our Media

Saw at Napsterization that Marc Canter (who I got to hang with at PC Forum) and JD Lasica (who I got to hang with at the Web2.0) just launched OurMedia.org, which the blogosphere and beyond has been talking about and awaiting for a long time. Congrats guys, and thanks for taking another brick out of the wall :)

Btw, just saw they have a new OurMedia-focused podcast here

Blogfather & Son

Dave Sifry took this shot at PC Forum with his super-amazing digitical SLR-- Canon 10D I believe (but as Dave said, "it's not the camera, it's the lens.") Thanks Dave, thanks lens!

Collage

Got this from Larry this morning. Looks like 10x10 is an ever-changing collage of 100 pics that reflect the memes and interests of the world at any given time. Worth a long look. For example, there are several pics of Terry Shiavo today.

Doc who?

Saw this question at Wondir today:

Who is Doc Searls?

Feel free to click-through and put in your $.02 :)

Mild-Wild Wondir View

We added a feature today that gives people (hate to use the word "users" all the time) the option of viewing all questions posted at Wondir (the "Wild View" option) or only those selected by other people at Wondir as non-offensive (the "Mild View" option). Check out the question board, try switching from the "Wild" to "Mild" view and let us know what you think of this. We'll probalby go through a series of tweaks and upgrades as this sort of pre-alpha feature evolves. Btw, I like the Mild/Wild name, coined by Cindy Couchman at Wondir.

Podcasting and THE LAW

Bret Faucett, lawyer and podcaster, goes into all the details on how to podcast RIAA music legally here. Met Bret at PC Forum. Good guy, great podcaster, worth the listen.
